Does Mounjaro Cause Saggy Skin? (October 2026)

Mounjaro does not directly cause saggy skin; loose skin is what significant, quick weight loss can leave behind on any method, including diet or surgery.1 Protecting muscle with protein and resistance exercise, and losing at a pace your prescriber guides, are the main counter-measures. Skin commonly adapts gradually once weight stabilises.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Loose skin is a result of significant weight loss, not a direct drug effect, and it happens with diet or surgery too.
  • Facial volume loss ("Ozempic face") follows the same logic: fat and volume reduce faster than skin adapts.
  • Adequate protein, resistance exercise and a sensible pace help protect lean mass.
  • Skin commonly adapts gradually after your weight stabilises.
  • Tell your prescriber about any new or worrying skin changes.
In this guide

01 · The honest answer

Is saggy skin a Mounjaro side effect?

Loose skin is not a drug effect; it is what losing a significant amount of weight quickly can do, whichever method you use. The same applies to the facial thinning people call "Ozempic face", which reflects lost facial volume rather than the medicine acting on skin.

In SURMOUNT-1, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages and individual results vary.2

02 · Your next step

What should you do about it?

Focus on what you can control while losing. Eat enough protein, add resistance exercise, and let your prescriber guide the pace rather than chasing maximum speed.1 Our guide on how to stop saggy skin goes deeper, and loose skin after Mounjaro covers what happens afterwards.

03 · Face and muscle

Face, muscle and volume

"Ozempic face" is not a drug effect. It is what losing weight quickly can do to facial volume, on any method including diet or surgery.1

The counter-measures protect lean mass: adequate protein, resistance exercise, and a loss pace guided by your prescriber.1 Hair shedding follows similar logic: it is linked to rapid weight loss itself rather than a direct drug effect, and nutrition matters.1 See also bad skin on Mounjaro.

04 · Will it go away?

Will loose skin tighten again?

Skin commonly adapts gradually after weight stabilises.1 How much it recovers varies from person to person. Where skin stays loose, options such as surgery are a conversation for a specialist.

Resistance exercise helps protect the muscle underneath the skin.

05 · Other skin concerns

Other skin changes to know about

Mild redness, itching or a small tender lump at the injection site is common and normally settles within a few days. Contact your clinical team if a reaction is spreading, hot, very painful, or lasts more than a week.1

For other changes, read can Mounjaro cause rashes and breakouts. Report any suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.19

06 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Does Mounjaro cause saggy skin?
Not directly. Loose skin is what significant, quick weight loss can do on any method, including diet or surgery. Protecting lean mass with adequate protein, resistance exercise and a pace guided by your prescriber are the main counter-measures. Skin commonly adapts gradually once weight stabilises.
Will saggy skin after weight loss go away?
Skin commonly adapts gradually after your weight stabilises, but how much it recovers varies and cannot be predicted. Some looseness may remain, particularly after large weight changes. Your prescriber can talk through your own situation and any next steps.
Does Mounjaro cause facial ageing?
Not directly. "Ozempic face" is not a drug effect; it is what losing a significant amount of weight quickly can do to facial volume, on any method. Adequate protein, resistance exercise and a sensible pace of loss help protect lean mass.
Can loose skin be tightened again?
Skin commonly adapts gradually after weight stabilises, though results differ between people. Building muscle through resistance exercise and eating enough protein supports the tissue beneath the skin. For persistent looseness, a specialist can discuss options.
Can exercise help tighten loose skin?
Resistance exercise helps protect lean mass while you lose weight, which is one of the main counter-measures against a deflated look. It supports the muscle underneath, but results vary.
Does GLP-1 medication cause saggy skin?
The loose skin is linked to the amount and speed of weight loss, not to a direct effect of the medicine on skin. The same applies to diet or surgery. Discuss any concerns about pace with your prescriber.
