Do You Get Heartburn on Mounjaro? (October 2026)

Heartburn is not a headline side effect of Mounjaro, but reflux is listed as a common side effect (up to 1 in 10 people) in the UK patient leaflet, alongside indigestion, bloating, burping and wind. Tirzepatide slows how quickly the stomach empties1, which may be one reason reflux-type symptoms appear. Not everyone is affected. If heartburn is severe or persistent, speak to your prescriber. Severe, persistent stomach pain, pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes need medical help straight away. Information current as of October 2026.

In this guide

01 · The short answer

Do you get heartburn on Mounjaro?

You may. Mounjaro activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, and one effect is slower stomach emptying1. That is part of why most people feel fuller sooner. Food can also stay in the stomach longer, and that is a plausible reason some people notice burning or discomfort after eating.

Our guides cover this in more detail: can you get heartburn from Mounjaro and why am I getting heartburn on Mounjaro.

02 · Next steps

What to do if you get heartburn

Tell your prescriber or pharmacist, and do not change your dose yourself. They can look at your dose, your other medicines and your symptoms together. Our guide on how to get rid of heartburn on Mounjaro sets out the practical options to raise with them.

A pharmacist can advise on any quick fixes, such as drinks or home remedies, and whether they are suitable alongside Mounjaro.

If you are already a customer, monthly reviews and side-effect support are part of our aftercare. If you are considering treatment, a free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, who will check your medical history and current medicines. You can start your free consultation.

03 · Why it may happen

Why heartburn may happen on Mounjaro

Tirzepatide helps regulate appetite and slows how quickly the stomach empties1. Slower emptying is useful for feeling full, but it changes how food moves through your digestive system.

Whether that leads to heartburn differs from person to person. The UK patient leaflet lists indigestion, bloating, burping, wind and reflux as common side effects (up to 1 in 10 people)13. Read it alongside our pages on Mounjaro heartburn and heartburn on Mounjaro 5mg.

04 · When to get help

When to speak to someone

Speak to your prescriber if heartburn is new, keeps coming back or is getting worse. Our pages on bad heartburn on Mounjaro and severe heartburn on Mounjaro explain what to raise with them.

If something worries you, seek medical advice rather than waiting; for severe, persistent stomach pain or signs of a severe allergic reaction, get medical help straight away. You can also report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme19.

Our support team is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0333 207 0413 or at support@everydaymeds.co.uk. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine supplied after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

05 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1
