In this guide
01 · The short answer
What Curb GLP-1 is, and what it is not
Curb is a branded liquid supplement, typically taken as a flavoured daily drink. It is described by its seller as supporting natural GLP-1 function, easing cravings and helping you feel fuller. Those are marketing descriptions, not licensed medical indications.
GLP-1 is a gut hormone involved in appetite. Prescription GLP-1 medicines are made to act on the body's GLP-1 receptors directly, in a measured, tested way. A supplement works differently: it contains food-type ingredients that are said to nudge your own hormone response. That is a very different proposition. Supplements sold as natural GLP-1 boosters are not equivalents and are not substitutes for prescribed treatment.1
02 · Side by side
Supplement versus prescription GLP-1: the honest comparison
| Question | "Natural GLP-1" supplement such as Curb | Mounjaro (tirzepatide) |
|---|---|---|
| What is it? | Food supplement, sold without a prescription | Prescription-only medicine, licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes1 |
| How does it act? | Marketed as supporting your own hormone; not an equivalent of the medicine1 | Activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, helping regulate appetite and slowing stomach emptying1 |
| Trial evidence | No comparable trial evidence; dosing is not standardised | SURMOUNT-1 trial averages, with individual results varying2 |
| Clinical oversight | None: low-cost supplement, no clinical oversight | Reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, with ongoing monthly reviews through us |
| Dosing | Not standardised across products | Once-weekly pen in six strengths, 2.5mg to 15mg1 |
| Regulation | Sold as a food product; not licensed as a medicine for weight loss | Licensed medicine, supplied by a registered pharmacy |
The difference is not that one is natural and the other is not. The difference is evidence, standardised dosing and professional oversight.
03 · Your decision
What to do next
If you are curious about Curb because you want less appetite and fewer cravings, the real question is whether you meet the criteria for a licensed treatment. Adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition, are the people most often considered. A prescriber decides, not a webpage.
Our free consultation is a short health questionnaire with no obligation, reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. If you are approved, the Mounjaro pen starts at the 2.5mg dose. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and every later order is £25 off the standard price. If you would rather not use injections yet, our weight loss clinic page explains the wider options.
04 · How prescription GLP-1 works
How prescription GLP-1 medicines work
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1
Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1
That dual action distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).1 It also explains why a drink that claims to support your own hormone output cannot be treated as the same thing. A medicine delivers a defined activity at a defined dose. A supplement does not.
If you want a plain-English primer on the class, see our explainer on GLP-1 activators, or our page on how AMPK relates to GLP-1 if you have seen that pairing in supplement marketing.
05 · What the evidence shows
What the evidence shows for licensed treatment
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages — individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2
For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. That is a worked example of an average, not a prediction for you.
SURMOUNT-1 shows the standard of evidence that licensed treatment has met: a large, controlled, published trial with named doses and a stated duration. When a supplement page promises dramatic weight-loss claims, ask whether anything comparable stands behind it.
Equally, it would be wrong to set these results against another product's trial as though they were head to head. Only a purpose-built comparison trial can do that.
06 · Supplement safety
Safety, interactions and absorption
A supplement is not automatically harmless because it is sold without a prescription. Three practical points matter if you are considering one, or taking one alongside a prescribed medicine.
First, nobody reviews your health history before you buy. A prescriber would ask about conditions, current medicines and pregnancy plans. A shop checkout does not.
Second, dosing is not standardised, so two products with similar names can behave very differently. Do not combine several appetite products on the assumption that more is better.
Third, if you start a prescribed GLP-1 medicine later, tell your prescriber and pharmacist what supplements you take. Oral supplements, like other oral products, may be absorbed more slowly when you start treatment.1 No supplement is required with Mounjaro, but eating much less can leave gaps, so a standard daily multivitamin is a reasonable safety net while losing weight. Discuss anything beyond that with a pharmacist.1
Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed.7 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea, doses may need adjusting because of the risk of low blood sugar, so your prescriber needs to know.1 Serious side effects of Mounjaro are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you notice a new symptom on any product, report it through the Yellow Card scheme.19
07 · Losing weight without medication
Is it possible to lose weight without GLP-1 medication?
Yes. Many people lose weight through food and activity changes alone, and the licensed medicines are designed to work alongside those changes rather than replace them. The SURMOUNT-1 comparison group, who made lifestyle changes alone, lost weight too, though on average less than those on tirzepatide.2
If you are trying to curb your appetite without a prescription, these habits do the most work.
- Protein at every meal. No food is banned on Mounjaro, but prioritising protein, vegetables and fibre makes any plan easier, and the same logic applies without medication.1
- Smaller, slower meals. Large portions sit heavily when the stomach empties more slowly, and eating slowly helps you notice fullness.1
- Regular movement. Regular moderate activity such as brisk walking, plus resistance work for muscle, is the evidence-backed pattern.1
- Enough fluid. Keep water within reach through the day.1
Our guides on how to curb your appetite and which foods curb appetite go into everyday tactics in more detail.
A caveat on muscle: some of any rapid weight loss comes from lean tissue, so protein and resistance exercise matter more as appetite falls.1 That is as true for diet-only weight loss as for treatment.
08 · Legal and safe buying
Are GLP-1 medicines legal in the UK?
Yes. Licensed GLP-1 medicines such as Mounjaro and Wegovy are legal in the UK as prescription-only medicines. They must be supplied by a registered pharmacy after a consultation reviewed by a prescriber.
The legal risk sits with unregulated sellers. Be cautious of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, of unfamiliar social media accounts, and of products described as "GLP-1" with no named medicine. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting problems.7
You can check any UK pharmacy on the GPhC register. EverydayMeds is registered under GPhC 9012878. We supply genuine Mounjaro KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, with free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging.
Food supplements are a separate category. They are legal to sell, but that is a statement about sale, not about whether they do what the label implies.
09 · NHS and private routes
NHS access and private treatment
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).4 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.
Ask your GP about your own position. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services, so ask your GP about that too.
If you go private, treatment is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary, and this page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.
