Can You Split a 5mg Dose of Mounjaro? (October 2026)

No, you should not split a 5mg dose of Mounjaro. The KwikPen is designed to deliver a full, fixed weekly dose, and it will not dial a partial injection.1 Splitting or spreading a dose is unlicensed and has no safety data behind it.1 If 5mg feels too strong, speak to your prescriber, who can adjust the plan within the licence.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • A 5mg Mounjaro dose should not be split: the KwikPen is built to deliver a full fixed dose, not a partial one.
  • The dose window will not turn to a full dose if the pen lacks enough medicine, and the pen should then not be used.
  • Splitting or spreading doses is unlicensed, with unknown dosing accuracy and no safety data.
  • If 5mg is too strong, your prescriber can hold a dose longer or step down within the licence.
  • Severe stomach pain, upper right abdominal pain, fever, yellow skin or eyes, or facial swelling need medical help straight away.
In this guide

01 · The answer

Can I split my 5mg Mounjaro dose?

No. The Mounjaro KwikPen is set by turning the dose knob until the number in the window shows the dose, and the pen will not let you dial past the medicine left inside.1 If the window will not turn to a full dose, the pen does not contain enough for one and should not be used for a partial injection.1

Taking smaller or more spread-out doses than the pen is designed to deliver is sometimes called microdosing. It is not licensed, not supported by the pen's design and not endorsed by any UK regulator.1

02 · Next step

What to do if 5mg feels too strong

Speak to your prescriber before changing anything. The licensed ladder already starts low for tolerability, and your prescriber can hold a dose longer or step down within the licence if side effects are the concern.1 That keeps your dose accurate and your treatment supervised.

Side effects are most likely when starting treatment or moving up a dose, and for most people they ease within days to a few weeks as the body adjusts.13 To see where 5mg sits on the ladder, see the Mounjaro stages.

If you are weighing up cost, the Mounjaro pen at 5mg is £218.99 at the standard price, and each pen is a full set of weekly doses. A new-customer discount applies to first orders and a reorder discount to every future order; the current values and codes are shown on that page.

03 · Risks of splitting

Why splitting a dose is risky

The pen is a sealed, pre-filled device. It is built to deliver a full weekly dose, and nothing in its design supports measuring a fraction.1 Trying to extract or time a partial amount means you cannot be sure how much medicine you received.

That uncertainty matters either way. Altering doses outside the licence means unknown dosing accuracy and no safety data.1

Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses.1 The pen's dial is the only reliable guide to what you are injecting, so confirm the dose by the number in the window, never by counting clicks.1 See also how dose volumes are described.

04 · How the ladder works

How the licensed dose ladder works

Everyone starts Mounjaro on 2.5mg once a week. This starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself.1 After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, and can then step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.1

Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber will guide the right pace.11

05 · Missed doses and timing

Missed doses and injection timing

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose entirely and take the next one on your normal day. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other.1

You can change your weekly injection day if needed, as long as there are at least 3 days between two doses.1 These rules let you adjust timing safely without altering the dose itself.

06 · When to get help

Serious side effects: when to seek help

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis). Get medical help straight away for pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems), or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.13

If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion). Your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.13 You can report any suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.19

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can you split a 5mg dose of Mounjaro?
No. The KwikPen is designed to deliver a full fixed weekly dose, and it will not dial past the medicine left inside. Splitting or spreading a dose is not licensed, and there is no safety data on dosing accuracy when doses are altered. If 5mg is a problem, speak to your prescriber.
Can I split my 5mg Mounjaro dose if I get side effects?
Do not split it yourself. Side effects are most likely when starting or moving up a dose and usually ease within days to a few weeks. If they do not, your prescriber can hold a dose longer or step down within the licence, which keeps your dosing accurate.
How do you split a 5mg Mounjaro dose?
You should not. There is no safe method, because the pen delivers a fixed dose and you confirm it by the number in the dose window. If the window will not turn to a full dose, the pen lacks enough for one and should not be used for a partial injection.
What happens if the pen does not have enough for a full dose?
If the dose window will not turn to a full dose, the pen does not contain enough medicine for one. Do not use it for a partial injection. Contact your pharmacy or prescriber for advice on a replacement and on what to do about that week's dose.
Is it safe to take smaller doses more often?
No. This is sometimes called microdosing, and it is not licensed, not supported by the pen's design and not endorsed by any UK regulator. It means unknown dosing accuracy and no safety data.
Can I stay on 5mg long term?
Yes, if your prescriber agrees. Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg, and higher is not automatically better. Your prescriber guides the right pace based on how you respond and tolerate treatment.
