A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • The hip is not a licensed site for Mounjaro; use the stomach, front of thigh or back of upper arm.
  • The stomach site must be at least 5cm from the belly button.
  • The upper arm needs someone else to give the injection.
  • Rotate the site with every weekly dose.
  • Unsure about a site or a reaction? Ask your prescriber or pharmacist before the next dose.

01 · Core answer

Which sites are licensed for Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is injected under the skin (subcutaneously) once a week, and only three areas are licensed: the stomach area, the front of the thigh, and the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection.1 The hip is not on that list, so we do not recommend it.

SiteLicensed?Note
Stomach areaYesAt least 5cm from the belly button
Front of the thighYesEasy to reach yourself
Back of the upper armYesOnly if someone else injects
HipNoNot a licensed site

02 · Next step

What should you do instead?

Choose the stomach or front of the thigh and move to a different spot each week. If you were drawn to the hip for the fat there, see our guide on injecting in love handles, or read where not to inject Mounjaro. If you have already used the hip once, do not panic: carry on with a licensed site next time and speak to your prescriber if you notice anything unusual.

New to the pen? You can start treatment through our Mounjaro pen consultation, and needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order.

03 · Rotating your site

Why rotating sites matters

The licensed guidance is to rotate the site with each dose.1 A simple habit is to alternate between the left and right of the stomach, then the thighs. Staying within the licensed areas gives you plenty of room to vary the spot. For technique, see what angle to inject Mounjaro.

04 · Pen, timing and day

Timing and the pen

There is no best time of day: Mounjaro works the same morning or evening, with or without food. What matters is the same day each week.1 Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses.1 Prefer sitting? See injecting while sitting down.

05 · Hip pain and Mounjaro

If you have hip or injection-site symptoms

Tell your prescriber about any new or lasting symptom, and you can report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Contact your clinical team if an injection-site reaction is spreading, hot, very painful, or lasts more than a week. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. For more, see our page on hip pain and Mounjaro.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can you inject Mounjaro in your hip?
No. The hip is not a licensed injection site. Mounjaro should go under the skin of the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else injects. Rotate the site each dose.
Where should you not inject Mounjaro?
Avoid anywhere outside the licensed sites, which includes the hip. Stay at least 5cm from the belly button on the stomach.
What happens if you inject Mounjaro in the wrong place?
The licence only covers the stomach, front of thigh and back of upper arm, so other sites are outside tested guidance. Use a licensed site next time, do not take an extra dose, and speak to your prescriber or pharmacist if you are worried.
How do you administer Mounjaro in the thigh?
Use the front of the thigh, inject under the skin and follow the pen's instructions. Rotate to a different spot each week. The thigh is easy to reach yourself, unlike the back of the upper arm, which needs someone else.
What is the best time of day to inject Mounjaro?
There is no best time. Mounjaro works the same morning or evening, with or without food. Pick a day and time you will remember, and keep to the same day each week. Many people choose a weekend morning.
Can you inject tirzepatide in the hip?
No. Tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro, is licensed for injection in the stomach area, front of the thigh or back of the upper arm, with someone else's help for the arm. The hip is not a licensed site.
