Can I Use a Mounjaro Needle Twice? (October 2026)

No, you should not use a Mounjaro needle twice. Each weekly injection needs a new, sterile pen needle, which you remove and discard into a sharps bin straight afterwards. The KwikPen is multi-dose, but the needle is single-use. Reusing it raises the risk of infection, pain and bruising, and can affect how reliably the pen delivers your dose. A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • A Mounjaro KwikPen holds several weekly doses, but every injection needs a fresh needle.
  • A reused needle is no longer sterile and the fine tip dulls, so injections hurt more and bruise more easily.
  • Remove the needle after each dose and never store the pen with a needle attached.
  • If you already reused a needle, watch the site for redness, swelling or warmth and speak to a pharmacist or prescriber if worried.
  • Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every EverydayMeds order.
In this guide

01 · The short answer

Should you reuse a Mounjaro needle?

No. Mounjaro is a once-weekly medicine supplied in a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen).1 Because the pen is multi-dose, people often assume the needle is too. It is not. The needle is attached for the injection, removed straight away and thrown away. The next week, you attach a new one.

The patient information leaflet sets out the injection steps, including fitting a new needle each time and removing it afterwards.13

02 · The reasons

Why a second use is a bad idea

A pen needle is made to be used for a single injection. After that, three things change.

IssueWhat happens with a reused needleWhat you may notice
SterilityThe needle has touched skin and the air, so it is no longer sterile.Redness, tenderness or a small lump at the site
Tip conditionThe very fine tip can blunt or bend after use.More pain, more bruising, skin tugging
Pen contaminationA needle left on the pen can let air in and medicine leak out.Drips, a missed or uncertain dose
BlockageDried medicine can build up inside the needle.Difficulty pressing the button or an incomplete dose

None of this is about the medicine itself. It is about the needle being a single-use device.

03 · What to do next

What to do if you have already reused one

Do not panic. Treat the injection site with care. Check it over the following days. If it becomes red, swollen, hot, increasingly painful or starts to weep, contact a pharmacist or your prescriber. If you feel generally unwell, seek medical advice.

From the next dose, use a fresh needle every time. If you have run out of needles, do not stretch your supply. Order more or ask our team, as pen needles are a separate, low-cost item.

04 · Pen versus needle

The pen lasts, the needle does not

Mounjaro comes as a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1 Each pen is built to deliver your weekly doses over its course, so you do not top it up or swap it mid-course.

The needle, by contrast, is a separate disposable part. You screw it on, inject, unscrew it and discard it. Leaving it on between doses is not recommended, because it can allow air in or medicine to leak, and it leaves a used needle exposed.13

You also do not need to count doses to work out whether you can reuse anything. Follow the dose-counting and priming instructions that come with your pen and leaflet. Reusing a needle will not make a pen last longer, and it is not a saving worth the risk.

05 · Pain, bruising and site care

Keeping injections comfortable

Most people find weekly injections easy once a routine is in place. A fresh needle is the single biggest contributor to a smooth one, because the tip is at its sharpest and cleanest.

Rotate your injection site each week, and avoid skin that is bruised, tender, scarred or hard. Licensed injection sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection.13 For practical hints on comfort, see our Mounjaro needle tips.

Needle length and gauge also matter for comfort and technique. If you are unsure what suits you, our guides on how long the Mounjaro needle is, needle length in millimetres and starting needle size explain the choices. For how the fitting works, read how needle heads work.

06 · Safe disposal

Disposing of used needles safely

Put the used needle into a sharps bin straight after removing it. Never put loose needles in household bins or recycling, and never recap in a way that risks a needle-stick injury. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every EverydayMeds order.

When the bin is full, do not squash or force the contents down. Local arrangements for returning sharps bins vary, so ask your pharmacy or local council how to hand it back. The pen itself should also be disposed of as the leaflet directs once you have finished with it.13

Keep pens and needles out of the sight and reach of children, and never share a pen or needle with anyone, even a family member, as that carries a serious infection risk.

07 · Storage and in-use life

Storage, in-use life and needles

Store unused pens in the fridge until first use. Once you start a pen, it can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away.113 Unopened pens keep until the printed expiry date. The fridge range is 2–8°C, and pens must never be frozen.

A pen should not be used beyond its in-use window, even if some medicine seems to remain. Past that point, sterility and potency are no longer assured.

If a pen has been left somewhere warm or you are unsure whether it has been stored properly, check the leaflet and ask a pharmacist before using it.

08 · Getting treatment properly

Starting Mounjaro the safe way

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary.

Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.12 We supply genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, with free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Same-day dispatch applies when you order by 3pm. New customers save £40 on their first order with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25).

If you are weighing up treatment, our weight loss clinic explains how it works. Our team can also answer injection and needle questions as part of ongoing monthly reviews.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can you use the same Mounjaro needle twice?
No. Use a new needle for every injection and discard the old one into a sharps bin straight afterwards. A used needle is no longer sterile and its fine tip can dull, which makes injections more painful. If you have already done it once, monitor the site and speak to a pharmacist if it looks inflamed.
Can you reuse Ozempic needles?
The same principle applies to any pen needle: each injection should use a new one. Ozempic has its own leaflet, so follow that for your pen. Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes — it is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply Ozempic for weight loss. For Mounjaro, our guide on whether you can reuse a Mounjaro needle covers the reasoning in more detail.
Can you inject Mounjaro twice a week?
No. Mounjaro is a once-weekly medicine, and your prescriber sets your dose. Taking extra injections is not part of the licensed use and could increase side effects. If you think you took a dose too soon, contact your prescriber or pharmacist for advice. See our page on using Mounjaro twice a week.
Why can't you use Mounjaro after 30 days?
Once a pen is in use, it is licensed for up to 30 days (not above 30°C) out of the fridge. Beyond that window, sterility and potency are no longer assured, so any medicine left in the pen should be discarded, even if some appears to remain. Follow the leaflet and ask your pharmacist if unsure.
What happens if Mounjaro isn't refrigerated?
Unused pens should be kept in the fridge until first use, and a pen in use has a licensed window out of the fridge of up to 30 days (not above 30°C). If a pen has been stored incorrectly, check the patient information leaflet and ask a pharmacist before injecting. Do not use it if you are unsure.
What happens if you take too much Mounjaro?
If you use more Mounjaro than you should, talk to a doctor immediately. Keep the pen and packaging to hand. Do not try to offset it yourself. Taking more than prescribed is not part of licensed use. Report any side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19
Who should not take Mounjaro?
You should not take Mounjaro if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during consultation. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews every EverydayMeds consultation, and the patient information leaflet lists the full warnings.13
Can I sell my unused Mounjaro?
No. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine supplied to you personally after a consultation, so it should not be sold or passed on. Selling it risks harm to the buyer and may be illegal. Return unwanted medicine to a pharmacy for safe disposal.
