A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro is a weekly medicine, and the licensed schedule is one injection per week, never an extra top-up dose.
  • Tirzepatide stays in the body for days, which is why timing changes should be deliberate and not improvised.
  • Never inject extra to compensate for an early or late dose; ask your prescriber what to do next.
  • If you want a new permanent injection day, plan the move with your prescriber and the leaflet rather than guessing.
  • Report anything unexpected through the Yellow Card scheme and tell your prescriber about new symptoms.
In this guide

01 · The short answer

Can you give Mounjaro a day early?

A day early is a small change, but it is a change to a medicine with a defined weekly schedule. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a weekly injectable prescription medicine, and the licensed pattern is one injection each week.1

You can change your weekly injection day if needed, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other.

Never respond to an early or late dose by adding an extra injection.

02 · Your next step

What to do if you are thinking of injecting early

Start with the date of your last injection and the date you want to inject next. Then read the missed-dose and timing section of the leaflet that came with your pen.13 If the leaflet answers your question, follow it. If it does not, or your situation is unusual, contact your prescriber before you inject.

Your situationSensible approach
You want to inject a day early for a one-off reasonCheck the leaflet, then confirm with your prescriber. Return to your usual day afterwards unless told otherwise.
You injected a day early by mistakeDo not inject again to compensate. Read our guide on accidentally injecting a day early and tell your prescriber.
You want a permanent new injection dayAsk the prescribing team to agree the change so your next date is clear. Our guide to how to give Mounjaro covers the injection routine.
You feel unwell after an early doseTell your prescriber, and report side effects through the Yellow Card scheme. For severe, persistent stomach pain, pain in the upper right abdomen with fever or yellowing of skin or eyes, or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing, get medical help straight away.19

If you are a customer of ours, our prescribing team include side-effect support and ongoing monthly reviews, so you can raise timing questions at any point. If you are still deciding on treatment, the Mounjaro pen product page shows current doses and prices, and our weight loss clinic guide explains how treatment fits together.

03 · Why timing matters

Why the weekly timing matters

Mounjaro is built around a weekly rhythm because tirzepatide stays active in the body for days. It has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.1 That long tail is what makes a weekly schedule possible in the first place.

It also explains why people feel the medicine as a steady background effect and not a daily peak and trough. Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.

That is the logic behind the standard advice: keep to your weekly pattern, and talk to a professional before you bend it.

The weight-loss results seen in trials came from the licensed weekly schedule taken consistently, alongside diet and activity. In SURMOUNT-1, people taking tirzepatide lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages and individual results vary.2

04 · Early dose side effects

What happens if you take Mounjaro early

If you have already injected a day early, the sensible response is calm and practical, not panic. Do not inject again to even things out. Read the leaflet's guidance on timing, and tell your prescriber so your next date is agreed and recorded.13

The leaflet lists the known side effects and when to seek medical help, and it is worth rereading after any change to your routine.13 If you notice a new or lasting symptom, tell your prescriber and report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.

Our related guides go deeper on the practicalities: what happens after a day-early injection and whether it is ok to take Mounjaro a day early.

05 · Never double up

Never take extra doses to make up for timing

The licensed schedule is one weekly injection from a pen at your prescribed strength.1 There is no approved way to inject more often, or to split doses to fit around a busy week.

A question that comes up often is whether you can inject every five days. The weekly pattern is the licensed one, and injecting every five days is not supported.

The same applies to using up the end of a pen faster, or combining strengths. If your pen does not seem to match your plan, stop and ask us or your prescriber before you inject. Our team can check what you were prescribed and what your next dose should be.

Sticking to the prescribed strength matters too. Changing the gap between doses on your own muddles that plan and makes it harder for the clinical team to judge how you are responding.

06 · Changing injection day

How to change your Mounjaro injection day

If your week has changed and you want to move your injection day permanently, treat it as a planned adjustment, not a one-off scramble. You can change your weekly injection day as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose; tell your prescriber which day suits you better.

A practical way to plan the move:

  • Note the date of your last injection and the strength you used.
  • Pick the weekday that will suit you for the long term, such as one that does not clash with travel or shifts.
  • Read the timing and missed-dose section of the leaflet.
  • Confirm the plan with your prescriber, particularly if you are in the middle of increasing your dose.
  • Set a repeating reminder, or record it in the free GLPTrackr companion app.

Our guide to injecting a day early covers a similar scenario from the injecting side.

The same careful approach applies if you are travelling across time zones. Keep your pen in the fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze it; once in use it can stay out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, so plan around your trip.

07 · Morning or night

Is it better to inject Mounjaro at night or in the morning?

The time of day is mostly a practical choice, and the day of the week matters more than the hour. Mounjaro works the same morning or evening, with or without food; what matters is the same day each week.

People tend to choose a time they can repeat reliably. Some prefer evenings when they are at home and relaxed, others prefer mornings so they can monitor how they feel through the day.

The same answer applies to other GLP-1 type injections: a consistent routine beats a clever one. Whichever time you choose, keep it simple enough that you will not forget or double up. If you find yourself unsure whether you have already injected this week, do not inject again; check your record or ask your prescriber.

08 · Who to ask

Who to ask when your schedule goes wrong

Your prescriber is the right first call for any dosing question that the leaflet does not answer clearly. If you buy from a regulated UK pharmacy, you should be able to reach the team that reviewed you, and a good service will not mind questions about timing.

With us, Mounjaro is supplied only after a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and our support team is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, through the account portal chat or by phone on 0333 207 0413. Ongoing monthly reviews are part of the service, so questions about injection day fit naturally into them.

Be cautious about advice from people offering to supply medicine without a consultation or prescription. Regulated supply matters for safety, and the MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting problems.719 Our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply, which means genuine KwikPens sourced from Eli Lilly's UK distribution. You can verify our registration on the GPhC register (9012878).

09 · Where Mounjaro fits

Where Mounjaro fits in your treatment

Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary, and a missed or shifted dose is a small part of a long course of treatment.

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment.

If you are paying privately, cost is a fair thing to plan around. The 2.5mg starting pen has a standard price of £169.99 per month, and a new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40. Every later order is £25 off the standard price. The Mounjaro pen page shows every strength as of October 2026.

This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

10 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I give Mounjaro a day early?
Yes, if at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose; never take two doses within 3 days of each other. Mounjaro is a weekly medicine, so you should never take an extra dose to make up for a changed schedule. If you have already injected early, do not inject again to compensate.
What happens if you accidentally take your Mounjaro shot a day early?
Do not inject again to even things out. Read the timing guidance in the leaflet, keep an eye on how you feel, and tell your prescriber so your next injection date is agreed. Contact them if you feel worse than usual, and report unexpected symptoms through the Yellow Card scheme.
Can I inject Mounjaro every 5 days?
No. The licensed schedule is one injection per week, and injecting every five days is not supported. Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so it stays active between doses. Any change to your schedule should come only from your prescriber after they have reviewed you.
Is it better to inject Mounjaro at night or in the morning?
It is mainly a practical choice. The day of the week matters more than the hour, so pick a time you can repeat reliably. Check the leaflet for anything tied to time of day or meals, and ask your prescriber if you are unsure. Consistency is the useful principle.
What happens if you take a GLP-1 a day early?
It depends on the medicine, so follow the leaflet for the specific product. For Mounjaro, never add an extra injection to compensate, and tell your prescriber about the change. Different GLP-1 medicines have different schedules, so do not assume the advice for one applies to another.
How do I change my GLP-1 injection day?
Choose the weekday you want to keep long term, note the date of your last injection, read the timing section of your leaflet, and confirm the plan with your prescriber, especially during dose increases. Setting a repeating reminder or logging it in the GLPTrackr app helps the new day stick.
Who can I ask about my Mounjaro injection day?
Ask the prescriber who reviewed you. Our customers can contact the support team Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email, account portal chat or phone, and raise timing questions at their monthly review.
