Ashwagandha Weight Loss Injections: What Exists in the UK (October 2026)

There are no ashwagandha weight loss injections. Ashwagandha is an oral herbal supplement, not a licensed weight-loss medicine, while licensed injections such as Mounjaro (tirzepatide) are prescription-only and reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Your first 2.5mg Mounjaro pen costs £129.99 as a first-order price (standard price £169.99). Prices checked 10 October 2026.

01 · The short answer

Is there an ashwagandha weight loss injection?

No, there is no ashwagandha weight loss injection in the UK. Ashwagandha is a herbal supplement that is taken by mouth as capsules, powders or teas, and it is sold as a supplement rather than as an approved weight-loss medicine. Ashwagandha and weight loss injections are sometimes mentioned together, but they are not related.

Weight loss injections are a different category. They are licensed prescription medicines, and in the UK they are supplied only after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.1 If a website, social media seller or messaging-app contact offers an "ashwagandha injection", "herbal GLP-1 shot" or similar, treat it as a warning sign. A legitimate pharmacy supplies genuine medicines only after a consultation and a prescription, so be wary of anyone offering to supply without either. You can check any UK pharmacy on the GPhC register; ours is registration 9012878.

02 · Decision

Supplement or prescription injection: which is relevant to you?

The honest split is simple. A supplement is something you might choose for general wellbeing, with no prescriber involved and no weight-loss licence. A prescription injection is a medical treatment for adults who meet the licensed criteria, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. They do not compete on a like-for-like basis: one is a supplement and the other a prescription medicine.

If your question is really "what actually works for weight loss, and what does it cost?", the licensed route is the one with published trial data. The all weight loss treatments page shows the full range we supply, and our guide to weight loss injections covers every option.

03 · Cost and ordering

What a licensed injection costs and how ordering works

A Mounjaro pen is one 4-week supply, and the 2.5mg starter pen costs £169.99 at the standard price. A new customer's first order at any dose is £40 less with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25). All six doses, 2.5mg to 15mg, are in stock, and you can see live prices on the Mounjaro pen page.

Ordering takes three steps:

  • Free online consultation. A short health questionnaire, no charge and no obligation.
  • Prescriber review. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Dispatch and delivery. Our registered pharmacy dispenses your pen, with same-day dispatch when you order by 3pm. Delivery is free, next-day, tracked and in temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.

You can begin with the free consultation. The consultation is free, and the price shown is the price paid.

04 · Ashwagandha and Mounjaro

Can ashwagandha be taken with Mounjaro?

The right step is to tell your prescriber and pharmacist that you take it, and let them check it against your medical history and other medicines. This applies to every supplement, herbal product and over-the-counter remedy, not only ashwagandha.

That caution is not a hint that something is wrong. It reflects how prescribing works. A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether Mounjaro suits you, and a supplement is part of that picture. If we do not know what you take, we cannot review it. If you start a supplement after beginning treatment, mention it at your next monthly review.

Do not stop or change any prescribed medicine because of a supplement, and do not start one because you believe it will "boost" an injection. Supplements are not a substitute for the prescribed treatment, and no supplement is a licensed way to improve how Mounjaro works.

New symptoms after starting a supplement

If you notice a new symptom after starting anything new, speak to your prescriber or pharmacist. Whether a symptom comes from the supplement, the injection or something unrelated is hard to tell without a review, and that is exactly the job of a clinician. You can also report a suspected side effect of any medicine through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19

Digestive effects and overlapping symptoms

Mounjaro's most common side effects are digestive: nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort.1 Starting a new supplement at the same time makes it harder to work out what is causing what. A sensible approach is to avoid introducing several new things in the first weeks of treatment, and to tell your clinical team if you have already done so.

What should you never mix with Mounjaro?

Two points come directly from the product information. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion), because your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines. And Mounjaro can reduce absorption of oral contraceptives because stomach emptying slows.7 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 Beyond these, the answer for any individual depends on a medicines review, not on a general list.

For the wider safety picture on weight loss injections, see our guide on whether weight loss injections are safe.

05 · Does ashwagandha help weight

Does ashwagandha do anything for weight loss?

Ashwagandha is sold as an adaptogenic herb for stress, and it is not an approved medication for weight loss. If a seller makes dramatic weight-loss claims, treat that as a reason for more scrutiny, not less.

The idea behind the interest is understandable. Some people connect stress, cortisol and weight gain, and ashwagandha is marketed at that link.

Why a prescriber's answer differs

Doctors tend to recommend treatments that are licensed for the problem being treated, with known dosing and published trial results. Ashwagandha is a low-cost supplement with no clinical oversight and dosing that is not standardised. That is the plain reason it does not feature in prescribing guidance for weight management: it is not an approved treatment for it. It is not a verdict that every person who takes it is making a mistake.

What can reasonably affect weight

Weight is shaped by many things, including food, activity, sleep, medicines, medical conditions and stress. If you feel your weight is tied to stress, that is worth raising with a GP or your prescriber, who can look at the whole picture. Licensed medicines work alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.1

How much ashwagandha per day to lose weight?

Supplement dosing is not standardised, and a product label is not a clinical recommendation. If you want to use a supplement, a pharmacist can talk through it with you in the context of your health and medicines.

06 · How Mounjaro works

How Mounjaro works in the body

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen, the KwikPen, in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet. That dual action distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic.

Why this is different from a herbal supplement

A medicine that acts on identified hormone receptors, with a defined dose ladder and a regulator-approved label, is a different kind of product from an oral herbal supplement. You can read exactly what Mounjaro does, what its side effects are and how to use it, in the patient information leaflet.13 That transparency is part of what a licence means.

How long it stays in your system

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4 to 5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1 This is useful to know if you are weighing up stopping or switching a treatment.

Other licensed injections

Mounjaro is not the only licensed option. Wegovy (semaglutide) is a once-weekly injection with a dose ladder of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg, stepping up after at least 4 weeks and reaching the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.18 Liraglutide, as in Saxenda, is a daily injection supplied at 6mg per millilitre, unlike the once-weekly pens. For a comparison of options, see our page on Wegovy weight loss injections in the UK.

None of these is herbal, and none should be confused with products sold under supplement labels.

07 · What the trial results show

What Mounjaro's trial results show

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.2

A worked example

Percentages are easier to picture as kilograms. For someone starting at 100 kg, 15% is about 15 kg, 19.5% is about 19.5 kg and 20.9% is about 21 kg. That is simple arithmetic on the trial averages, not a prediction for you, and it says nothing about how quickly any person will get there. A trial average does not predict your own result.

Why this matters for the ashwagandha question

If you are comparing a supplement with an injection, the key difference is the evidence you can look at. For tirzepatide, you can read the published trial, the named endpoint, the duration and the comparison group.

What the results do not mean

The trial figures do not mean every person loses that much, and they do not mean the medicine works without lifestyle changes. They also do not mean higher is automatically better: many people settle on a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg, and your prescriber guides the right pace.1

Our ongoing monthly reviews exist so that your dose, progress and tolerance are checked by a prescriber rather than left to guesswork. If you want to see whether treatment is appropriate for you, our register online guide explains how to get started.

08 · Side effects compared

Ashwagandha side effects versus Mounjaro side effects

If you are asking "what is the dark side of ashwagandha?", the factual answer is that a supplement is not assessed by a prescriber for your circumstances, and any new symptom should be discussed with a pharmacist or prescriber and can be reported through the Yellow Card scheme.19

For Mounjaro, the most common effects, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Common effects, up to 1 in 10, include indigestion, reduced appetite, dizziness, reflux, burping, hair shedding and injection-site reactions. They are most likely when starting treatment or moving up a dose, and for most people they ease within days to a few weeks.1

Trial rates

In the weight-management trials, nausea was reported by 24.6% of people on 5mg, 29.0% on 10mg and 28.0% on 15mg, compared with 8.5% on placebo. Diarrhoea was reported by 18.7%, 20.8% and 22.5% respectively, compared with 7.8% on placebo. These effects were more common while the dose was being increased and became less frequent over time. Hair loss was reported by 4.9% of people on tirzepatide versus 1.0% on placebo, and injection-site reactions by 8.0% versus 1.8%.1

In SURMOUNT-1, 4.3% of people on 5mg, 7.1% on 10mg and 6.2% on 15mg stopped treatment because of side effects, compared with 2.6% on placebo.2

Managing digestive effects

Practical steps help most people: eat smaller meals slowly, stop at the first feeling of fullness, favour plain lower-fat foods while adjusting, stay well hydrated, and avoid lying down straight after eating. If nausea or vomiting is persistent or you cannot keep fluids down, contact your clinical team — dehydration needs prompt attention.13

Serious effects

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.1

Whichever product you consider, the principle is the same: know what you take, tell your prescriber, and report anything unexpected.

09 · Eligibility and the NHS

Who can have Mounjaro: eligibility, NHS and private

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.

That assessment is why a supplement and an injection cannot be treated as interchangeable. With a supplement, nobody checks whether it suits you. With a prescription injection, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews you, and if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

NHS access

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. The NHS guide to tirzepatide gives the public overview.5

If you pay the NHS prescription charge, it is £9.90 per item in England, but that only applies where an NHS prescription is issued. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.

Private treatment and what it includes

With us, private treatment means a free consultation, prescriber review, dispensing by our registered pharmacy, and ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team. Repeat orders re-check suitability, with no auto-shipping, and there are no subscriptions. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order. Our supply is official LillyDirect supply, meaning Mounjaro direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution and genuine KwikPens.

If you are unsure which route fits, our guide to buying weight loss injections in the UK walks through what to check before you pay anyone.

10 · Starting treatment safely

Starting Mounjaro: dose ladder, injecting and missed doses

Everyone starts Mounjaro on 2.5mg once a week. The starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, and can then step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.1 Many people settle at 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Higher is not automatically better.

The gradual ladder is one reason side effects tend to appear in the first days after starting or increasing a dose, peak early and settle. If a new dose is hard to tolerate, prescribers can hold the current dose longer before stepping up, so speak to your clinical team rather than pushing through severe symptoms.13

How to inject

Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food. Licensed sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose. Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses, and you should follow the pen's instructions for the injection itself.13

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose entirely and take the next one on your normal day. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other.13

Injection-site reactions and other everyday effects

Mild redness, itching, a small bruise or a tender lump at the injection site is common and normally settles within a few days. Rotating sites and letting the pen warm briefly out of the fridge reduces stinging. Contact your clinical team if a reaction is spreading, hot, very painful or lasts more than a week.13

Unopened pens are stored in the fridge until first use and keep until the printed expiry date. Once in use, a KwikPen is licensed for up to 30 days (not above 30°C) out of the fridge.13 Our free GLPTrackr companion app can help you log doses and track your journey.

11 · Cost over a year

Planning the cost of a licensed injection over a year

If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices. That is before discounts: a new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 less (code DOSE25).

Over a first year of 52 weeks and 13 pens, the total depends on the dose you settle at. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,599.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg, again at standard prices before discounts. If you settle at another dose, the monthly pen price applies: £279.99 at 7.5mg, £290.99 at 10mg and £319.99 at 12.5mg.

Putting it in context

Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens ranged from £143.96 to £339.00 per month across all doses and providers when we checked on 10 October 2026. For the 2.5mg starting pen alone, the range was £143.96 to £179.99. The gap between providers for the same dose ranged from £27 to £41. Boots' Mounjaro prices ran from £179.00 to £339.00. Comparing the same dose, rather than the headline price, is the fair way to read these.

Why supplements are not a cost comparison

Supplements are cheap to buy, and that is exactly the point to be careful about: they are available cheaply without assessment, and low cost does not make a product a licensed weight-loss treatment. If a seller promises specific results for a low price, the price is not the issue; the promise is.

How payment works

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Are there ashwagandha weight loss injections?
No. Ashwagandha is a herbal supplement taken by mouth as capsules, powders or teas, and it is not licensed as a weight-loss medicine. Licensed weight loss injections, such as Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide), are prescription-only medicines supplied after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Anyone offering an "ashwagandha injection" or offering to supply without a consultation or prescription should be treated with suspicion.
Can ashwagandha be taken with Mounjaro?
The safe route is to tell your prescriber and pharmacist that you take ashwagandha, so they can review it against your medical history and other medicines. Do not start a supplement hoping it will improve how Mounjaro works, and report any new symptom to your clinical team or through the Yellow Card scheme.
Does ashwagandha do anything for weight loss?
Ashwagandha is sold as an adaptogenic herb for stress, and it is not an approved weight-loss treatment. By contrast, tirzepatide's SURMOUNT-1 trial reported average losses of 15% to 20.9% over 72 weeks; individual results vary, and treatment works alongside diet and activity.
Does ashwagandha reduce cortisol belly?
If you feel stress is affecting your weight, raise it with a GP or prescriber, who can consider sleep, medicines, medical conditions and eating patterns together. Licensed weight-loss medicines are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
How quickly does ashwagandha lower cortisol?
Supplement effects are not standardised, and dosing is not standardised either. If you are concerned about stress or cortisol, a GP can assess you properly. For weight management specifically, licensed options are reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.
What is the dark side of ashwagandha?
If you notice a new symptom, speak to a pharmacist or prescriber and report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme, which accepts reports about any product.
Why don't doctors recommend ashwagandha?
For weight management, prescribers rely on licensed treatments with defined dosing and published trial results. Ashwagandha is sold as a supplement, not an approved medication for weight loss, and its dosing is not standardised. That is a difference in regulatory status and clinical oversight, not a judgement about every person who takes it. Whatever you take, tell your prescriber and pharmacist so they can check it against your other medicines.
What should you never mix with ashwagandha or with Mounjaro?
For ashwagandha, ask a pharmacist to check it against your medicines. For Mounjaro, two points are established. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion), because those medicines may need adjusting. Mounjaro can also reduce absorption of oral contraceptives because stomach emptying slows, so switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.
What should women know about Mounjaro, pregnancy and contraception?
Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you are breastfeeding or taking oral contraceptives, speak to a pharmacist or prescriber before starting any supplement or medicine. For Mounjaro, the SmPC advises switching to a non-oral contraceptive method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.
How much ashwagandha per day to lose weight?
Supplement dosing is not standardised. A pharmacist can talk through a supplement with you in the context of your medicines. If you want a licensed approach, Mounjaro starts at 2.5mg weekly and steps up at minimum 4-week intervals to a maximum of 15mg, guided by your prescriber.
