In this guide

01 · Cost

What an affordable GLP-1 plan costs for type 2 diabetes

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection, and one pen lasts four weeks. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99).

Doses step up over time, so the cost changes as you move through the strengths. The table uses standard prices, before any discount.

Plan stagePensStandard cost
Starter pen (2.5mg)1 pen, 4 weeks£169.99
First year, settling at 5mg13 pens, 52 weeks£2,711.88
First year, settling at 15mg13 pens, 52 weeks£3,599.88

A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less. If you settle at another dose, your monthly cost is that pen's price: £279.99 at 7.5mg, £290.99 at 10mg or £319.99 at 12.5mg. Many people will not need the highest strength, and your prescriber sets the dose with you.

The discount applies to a first order at any dose, including if you are switching to us from another provider at a higher strength. For example, a first 15mg order is £289.99.

02 · Market

How these prices compare across the UK pharmacies we track

Across the UK pharmacies we track, a Mounjaro pen cost between £143.96 and £339.00 per month depending on dose and provider (checked 11 October 2026). For the 2.5mg starting pen alone, the range was £143.96 to £179.99.

For the same dose, the gap between providers ran from £27 to £41. Check what each price includes when you compare. Consultation with us is free, the price shown is the price paid, and delivery is free next-day tracked in temperature-controlled packaging.

The list price is set by the manufacturer. Pharmacy sell prices vary because of confidential discounts, which is why live comparison matters.

03 · NHS or private

NHS or private: the honest picture

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.4 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

If you have type 2 diabetes, your GP or diabetes team is the right first call about what the NHS can offer you. They know your HbA1c history and your current medicines. Private treatment is a choice, not a replacement for that relationship. You can read how the two sit together in our guide on whether Mounjaro can be prescribed for type 2 diabetes.

04 · Ordering

How ordering works

Ordering takes three steps; payment is taken when you place the order, and if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

  • Free online consultation. A short health questionnaire with no charge and no obligation. Start your free consultation when you are ready.
  • Prescriber review. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers, not a scoring script. Unsuitable orders are refunded automatically.
  • Dispensing and delivery. Our registered pharmacy dispenses your pen, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm and free next-day tracked delivery. Saturday delivery is £14.99.

Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order. You can pay by Visa or Mastercard, or use Klarna and pay-monthly options. There are no subscriptions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping. Our Mounjaro discount code guide explains how they work in more detail.

05 · Mounjaro and type 2 diabetes

Mounjaro and type 2 diabetes

Mounjaro is licensed for type 2 diabetes, where it improves blood sugar control (HbA1c) and supports weight loss.1 Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

If you have type 2 diabetes, treatment and monitoring are coordinated differently, so tell your prescriber and your usual diabetes team so care stays joined up.8 Your diabetes team can tell you whether other medicines in your plan need reviewing as treatment starts.

Our guides cover the detail: Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes, the dose steps used in type 2 diabetes and whether you can take it alongside other diabetes treatment. For the wider drug class, see our overview of GLP-1 medicines and type 2 diabetes.

06 · How it works

How tirzepatide works

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.

This dual action distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).1 Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1

07 · What results to expect

What results to expect

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20%.2 As a worked example, for someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. Trial averages do not predict your own result.

This was a weight-management trial, so these figures are not a promise about your blood sugar. Your HbA1c response is something to review with your diabetes team. Our guide to weight loss injections in type 2 diabetes goes further.

08 · Who it is licensed for

Who is eligible

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1 It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you.1 Type 2 diabetes is therefore one of the listed conditions that can support eligibility, but suitability is always a clinical decision. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

09 · Cutting running costs

Habits that protect your money and your results

The cheapest plan is the one where you lose no doses to avoidable problems. Several habits support that.

Hydration. Drinking enough matters more on Mounjaro than usual. Reduced appetite means less fluid from food, and vomiting or diarrhoea can dehydrate you quickly, which is the main route to the rare kidney problems reported with this class. Keep water within reach, and if you cannot keep fluids down, contact your clinical team — dehydration needs medical help straight away.

Protein and muscle. Some of any rapid weight loss comes from lean tissue. Include a protein source at every meal and do resistance exercise two or more times a week. This matters more, not less, as the dose rises and appetite falls.1

Movement. Increased physical activity is part of the licence, not an optional extra. Regular moderate activity such as brisk walking plus resistance work is the pattern to follow. Exercise also protects against regain if you later stop treatment.1

Food choices. No food is banned on Mounjaro, but many people feel worse after very fatty, fried or very sugary food. Smaller, slower meals work better because the stomach empties more slowly.1 If you have type 2 diabetes, ask your diabetes team how to balance carbohydrates.

Alcohol. There is no direct interaction between Mounjaro and alcohol. If you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, alcohol increases the risk of low blood sugar.13

10 · Alternatives and cheap fixes

Alternatives, and cheap options to treat with caution

Mounjaro is not the only GLP-1 option. The Wegovy pen is a once-weekly semaglutide injection. Its pens are 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg, stepping up after at least 4 weeks to the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.18 Your first Wegovy pen costs £99.99 with the new-customer discount applied. Our full weight loss treatment range shows what else we offer.

Liraglutide (Saxenda, and products such as Erly) is supplied at 6mg per millilitre and is a daily injection, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy. Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are oral GLP-1 options.

Supplements sold as natural GLP-1 boosters, including so-called nature's Ozempic, are not equivalents and are not substitutes for prescribed treatment.13 They are available cheaply without assessment, but they carry no clinical oversight, and their dosing is not standardised. Dramatic weight-loss claims on such products should be treated with scepticism.

Metformin is a different, long-established approach. Our comparison of Mounjaro vs metformin for type 2 diabetes sets out how they differ. Do not stop or swap a medicine you take for diabetes without speaking to your prescriber.

11 · Avoiding counterfeits

Buying safely: avoid counterfeit pens

A low price is no bargain if the pen is not genuine. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts, and you should treat any seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription as a red flag.7 Check that a pharmacy appears on the GPhC register. Ours is registration 9012878.

We supply Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, as genuine KwikPens. All six doses (2.5–15mg) are in stock. If you have a suspected side effect, report it through the Yellow Card scheme.19

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
What is the best GLP-1 for type 2 diabetes and weight loss?
There is no single best GLP-1 for everyone. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed for type 2 diabetes and for weight management, and works on two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1. Semaglutide acts on one. Which suits you depends on your health and other medicines, so your prescriber and diabetes team should decide with you.
What is a cheaper alternative to Ozempic for type 2 diabetes?
Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes; a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply it for weight loss. Within our range, the Mounjaro 2.5mg pen is £169.99 at standard price. A prescriber should decide whether switching is suitable, so speak to your diabetes team before changing any diabetes medicine.
What is the fastest way to lose weight with type 2 diabetes?
There is no safe shortcut. Treatment is licensed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Protein at every meal, resistance exercise two or more times a week, regular moderate activity and enough fluids all help. Extremely rapid loss risks losing muscle, so work with your diabetes team on a sustainable pace.
What is the newest pill for type 2 diabetes?
Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are GLP-1 tablets licensed in the UK for weight management; there is no tablet form of Mounjaro. Which oral or injectable treatment suits you depends on your medicines and health, so your prescriber can advise.
What should diabetics drink first thing in the morning?
Water is a sensible start. On Mounjaro, reduced appetite means less fluid from food, so keep water within reach through the day. Coffee and tea are fine, but strong coffee on an empty stomach can aggravate nausea or reflux for some people. Ask your diabetes team about any other drinks.
What fruit should I avoid if I have type 2 diabetes?
No food is banned on Mounjaro, including bananas, but choices can make treatment easier. For type 2 diabetes, how much fruit suits you depends on your blood sugar control and other medicines, so ask your diabetes team or a dietitian. Smaller, slower meals tend to work better when the stomach empties more slowly.
Can I get Mounjaro on the NHS for type 2 diabetes?
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. Ask your GP or diabetes team what applies to you. If you do not qualify yet, regulated private treatment is another route.
Is the new-customer discount only for the 2.5mg pen?
No. A new customer gets £40 off their first order at any dose with code FIRST40, including if switching from another provider at a higher strength. After that, every future order gets an automatic £25 off with code DOSE25. Prices were checked 11 October 2026.
