A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro is dosed in milligrams. 10mg is one of six strengths, below the 12.5mg and 15mg pens.
  • A 10mg pen costs £290.99 at the standard price, and every later order is £25 off.
  • In SURMOUNT-1, people on 10mg lost on average 19.5% of their body weight over 72 weeks. Individual results vary.
  • If progress on 10mg is slow, review it with your prescriber rather than changing doses yourself.
  • Report any new or worrying symptom to your prescriber and through the Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Is Mounjaro 10mg a lot?

No, 10mg is not the highest dose, but it is a substantial one. Mounjaro comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1 The highest strength for weight loss is therefore 15mg, and 10mg sits well within the licensed range.

Whether it is "a lot" for you depends on how you reached it. Most people arrive at 10mg after stepping up through the lower pens, so the body has had time to adjust. Your prescriber decides each step based on how you are tolerating treatment and how you are responding, not on a fixed target.

The 2.5mg pen is a starting strength to let your body adjust, not a dose intended to be the long-term plan.

02 · Compare the strengths

Where 10mg sits among the strengths

The upper half of the range is shown here, with live standard prices for a pen. A new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25).

StrengthWhere it sitsStandard price per penPer week
7.5mgMid-range, often a step on the way up£279.99£70.00
10mgUpper-middle£290.99£72.75
12.5mgHigh strength£319.99£80.00
15mgHighest strength£329.99£82.50

If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices. That total is before discounts. You can see current pen prices and start a free consultation on the Mounjaro pen page, and all six strengths are in stock.

03 · What to do next

Is 10mg right for you?

You only reach 10mg through a prescriber, so the practical decision is whether to continue, hold or change. If you are well on your current dose and progressing, staying put is a reasonable plan. If you are struggling with tolerability, say so before the next step up rather than after it.

If you are switching to us from another provider at 10mg, your first order still qualifies for the new-customer discount. Our prescribing team reviews your history and decides the starting strength. For broader support alongside the medicine, our weight loss clinic page explains how the service fits together.

04 · What 10mg delivers

What to expect on Mounjaro 10mg

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 At 10mg you are on the same medicine as at every other strength. Only the amount in each weekly injection changes.

The clearest evidence comes from the SURMOUNT-1 trial. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages — individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight.2 Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.2

Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg — higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber will guide the right pace. A trial average does not predict your own result, and the trial ran for a long time, so patience matters.

05 · How it works

How Mounjaro works and when you notice it

Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.

There is no single moment when 10mg switches on. If you have stepped up through the lower pens, the effect on appetite is already established, and the move to 10mg usually feels like a gradual change rather than a sudden one.

If you notice no change in appetite at all after a reasonable period on a new strength, tell your prescriber.

06 · Stalled weight loss

Why you may not be losing weight on 10mg

Slow or stalled progress on 10mg has several common explanations, and a higher dose is only one possible answer. The trial figures are averages across many people, so some do better and some do worse than the headline number. Trial averages do not predict your own result.

Work through these in order before asking about a change:

  • Time on the dose. Give a new strength a fair run before judging it, particularly if you recently stepped up.
  • Food intake. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2 Liquid calories, snacking and large portions can quietly cancel out the effect of feeling fuller.
  • Missed or late injections. Regular weekly timing matters, so check your records. The free GLPTrackr companion app can help you keep a log.
  • Other medicines. Tell your prescriber about everything you take, so they can review your full list.
  • Alcohol. Drinks such as Baileys and other creamy liqueurs add calories, and drinking on a reduced appetite and emptier stomach can hit harder than usual.

If you have done all of that and still plateau, a prescriber review is the right next step. Your prescriber can decide whether to stay at 10mg, step up, or look at other factors.

07 · Speeding things up safely

How to speed up weight loss on 10mg

There is no safe shortcut that makes Mounjaro 10mg work faster, but you can make sure nothing is working against it. The honest answer is the unglamorous one: the medicine reduces appetite, and the results come from what you do with that appetite.

Practical habits that support treatment include:

  • Building meals around protein and vegetables so that feeling fuller sooner translates into fewer calories overall.
  • Keeping up regular physical activity, including strength work, which fits the trial setting where treatment ran alongside exercise.
  • Eating slowly and stopping when you feel full, since fullness arrives sooner on treatment.
  • Staying well hydrated.

Be cautious about anything that promises faster results on top of your treatment. Low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight are not a substitute and can add risk.

08 · Side effects

Common side effects on 10mg

The most common side effects, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Common effects (up to 1 in 10) include indigestion, reduced appetite, dizziness, reflux, burping, hair shedding and injection-site reactions.13 Side effects are most likely when starting treatment or moving up a dose, and for most people they ease within days to a few weeks as the body adjusts.

Eat smaller meals slowly, stop at the first feeling of fullness, favour plain lower-fat foods while adjusting, stay well hydrated, and avoid lying down straight after eating. If nausea or vomiting is persistent or you cannot keep fluids down, contact your clinical team — dehydration needs prompt attention. Our team provides side-effect support as part of ongoing monthly reviews.

Tell your prescriber about any new or lasting symptom. For severe, persistent stomach pain, pain in the upper right abdomen with fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or swelling of the face or throat with difficulty breathing, get medical help straight away. You can also report a suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19

09 · Using the pen

The 10mg pen and storage

Your order also includes needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance.

For storage, keep unopened pens in the fridge at 2–8°C until first use, and they keep until the printed expiry date.13 Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away.1 For anything else, such as a pen left out of the fridge before opening, check the patient information leaflet or ask the pharmacy.

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system — there is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1

10 · Other medicines and sourcing

Other medicines, and where your pen comes from

Always tell your prescriber about every medicine you take, because some need extra thought alongside tirzepatide. We have separate pages on digoxin and Mounjaro and on clozapine and Mounjaro for people on those treatments. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed.7 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1

Our Mounjaro is supplied through official LillyDirect supply direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution as genuine KwikPens, dispensed by a GPhC-registered pharmacy (registration 9012878). Be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.

11 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

12 · NHS and private

NHS or private for Mounjaro 10mg

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).4 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.6

If you go private, the process is straightforward: a free online consultation, review by a GPhC-registered prescriber, dispatch from our registered pharmacy, and free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day. We also run ongoing monthly reviews, and repeat orders re-check suitability with no auto-shipping.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Is 10mg of Mounjaro a lot?
It is an upper-middle strength rather than the maximum. Mounjaro comes in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg, so 12.5mg and 15mg sit above 10mg. Most people reach 10mg after stepping up through lower pens under prescriber review. Whether it suits you depends on how well you tolerate it and how you are responding.
What is the highest mg of Mounjaro for weight loss?
The highest Mounjaro strength is 15mg. The pen range runs 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg. Many people do not need the top strength, and your prescriber decides whether to hold at a lower dose such as 10mg or step up based on tolerability and progress.
What to expect on Mounjaro 10mg?
Expect to feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet. In SURMOUNT-1, people on 10mg lost on average 19.5% of their body weight over 72 weeks, alongside diet and exercise. Individual results vary, and trial averages do not predict your own result.
How long does it take for Mounjaro 10mg to kick in?
There is no fixed switch-on point. Most people reach 10mg after stepping up through lower pens, so the effect on appetite is already established, and a further change tends to build gradually over the following weeks. If you notice no effect at all after a fair period, speak to your prescriber.
Why am I not losing weight on 10mg of Mounjaro?
Common reasons include too little time on the dose, calorie intake that cancels out the appetite effect, missed injections, other medicines, or simply being below the trial average. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity. If progress stays slow, ask your prescriber to review it rather than changing doses yourself.
How to speed up weight loss on 10mg Mounjaro?
There is no safe shortcut. Build meals around protein and vegetables, keep active, eat slowly, stop when full and inject on schedule. If you plateau, your prescriber can review whether to hold at 10mg, change dose or look at other factors.
What are the common side effects of taking 10mg of Mounjaro?
The most common side effects, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Side effects can change when the dose changes. Tell your prescriber about anything new or lasting, and report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme. For severe, persistent stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or swelling of the face or throat, get medical help straight away.
What are people saying about Mounjaro 10mg weight loss?
The trial evidence is clearer: in SURMOUNT-1, people on 10mg lost on average 19.5% of their body weight over 72 weeks, alongside diet and exercise. Individual results vary.
