How Prescription Weight Loss Pills Work
Orlistat works by blocking approximately one third of the dietary fat you eat from being absorbed by your body. This lipase inhibitor acts locally in your digestive system, allowing unabsorbed fat to pass naturally through your body. When used alongside a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet and increased physical activity, orlistat may help support your weight management goals.
Orlistat vs Xenical vs Alli: Which Should You Choose?
All three options contain the same active ingredient but at different strengths. Orlistat 120mg (generic) offers the most cost-effective option at £32.99 for 4 weeks (£29.69 with EDM10). Xenical 120mg provides the branded version at £42.99 for 4 weeks (£38.69 with EDM10). Both require prescription following clinical assessment. Alli 60mg is the lower-strength option at £28.99 for 4 weeks (£26.09 with EDM10), containing half the dose of prescription-strength orlistat.
Who May Be Suitable for Prescription Weight Loss Treatment?
Orlistat may be suitable for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or those with a BMI of 28 or above with weight-related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Suitability is determined through individual clinical assessment by our UK-licensed prescribers. The treatment works best when combined with a structured diet and exercise programme.
Your Online Prescription Process
Complete our confidential online health questionnaire, which covers your medical history, current medications, and weight management goals. A qualified UK prescriber reviews your information and issues a prescription where clinically appropriate. Your medication is then dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy and dispatched for next-day delivery across the UK. The entire process is regulated by the MHRA and follows the same standards as any UK pharmacy.
Treatment Packages and Pricing
We offer flexible treatment durations to suit your weight management programme. Two-week starter packs begin at £16.89 for generic orlistat (£15.20 with EDM10). Our popular 12-week programmes cost £95.99 for orlistat (£86.39 with EDM10), £128.99 for Xenical (£116.09 with EDM10), or £129.99 for Alli (£116.99 with EDM10). All prices include the prescription consultation, with no hidden fees or separate GP charges.
Important Safety Information
Like all prescription medicines, orlistat may cause side effects, particularly gastrointestinal effects that are more common when eating high-fat meals. These effects can be minimised by keeping dietary fat intake low (approximately 15g per meal). Most side effects reduce as your diet adapts to the treatment. A daily multivitamin supplement is recommended, taken at bedtime at least 2 hours after your last orlistat dose.
